How does the MedPlans plan finder quiz work?
The quiz asks five short questions about your coverage type, household, how often you use care, your budget, and whether you need dental or vision. Based on your answers, it recommends a plan structure (HMO, PPO, HDHP, etc.) and connects you with a licensed advisor who pulls real quotes for your ZIP code.
How does MedPlans match me with a plan?
We combine the profile from the quiz with real plan availability in your ZIP code across ACA marketplace and off-marketplace carriers. The advisor then walks you through the two or three options that best fit your utilization and budget, so you can compare like-for-like.
Is MedPlans really free?
Yes. Insurance carriers pay licensed agents a fixed commission per enrollment. That commission is baked into the premium whether you use an agent or not, so using MedPlans doesn't add any cost to your plan. There is never a fee to speak with a MedPlans advisor.
Are MedPlans advisors actually licensed?
Every advisor is state-licensed, appointed with the carriers we compare, and completes annual carrier certifications and continuing education. We're an independent agency — not tied to any single carrier — and we're licensed across all 50 U.S. states.
What happens to the information I submit on the site?
We use it to prepare your quote and connect you with a licensed advisor. If you consent, we may share it with the marketing partners listed on our Marketing Partners page. You can review our full Privacy Policy or submit a privacy request at any time to access, correct, or delete your data.
How long does it take to get a real quote?
Most advisors respond within one business hour during business days (Mon–Sat, 8am–8pm CT). During Open Enrollment or Special Enrollment surges, response times may be slightly longer, but we prioritize time-sensitive requests.
Do I qualify for a subsidy?
Subsidy eligibility depends on your projected household income relative to the federal poverty level for your family size. Most households earning between roughly 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level qualify, and recent legislation extended enhanced subsidies to some higher earners. Check HealthCare.gov for current figures or ask your advisor.
Can I keep my current doctor?
It depends on the plan you choose. HMOs and EPOs restrict coverage to a defined network. PPOs and POS plans cover out-of-network care at a reduced rate. Your advisor will check whether your preferred providers are in-network on any plan you're considering before you enroll.
Do the plans MedPlans offers include dental and vision?
Most standalone health plans do not include adult dental or vision. Dental and vision are typically added as separate riders — usually $15–$50/month for dental and $8–$20/month for vision. We compare bundled options as part of your recommendation.
What if I need to cancel or change my plan later?
You can change or cancel your health plan during the annual Open Enrollment Period (Nov 1 – Jan 15 in most states) or during a Special Enrollment Period triggered by a qualifying life event — marriage, birth, adoption, loss of coverage, moving, and others. Your advisor can help either way.
Is MedPlans affiliated with the government or Medicare?
No. MedPlans Insurance Agency LLC is a private licensed insurance agency. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. government, the federal Medicare program, HealthCare.gov, or any state agency.
How do I know the recommendation is honest?
We're an independent agency, our advisors are compensated at the same commission rate across carriers, and every education page is reviewed by a licensed agent before publication. If the right answer for you is a plan you can buy directly on HealthCare.gov without us, that's the answer we give you.
